June 9th officially marked one year since of Double Fine Productions was added to Microsoft’s network of first-part developers, Xbox Game Studios. And following the acquisition going public, many speculated that would not be the last for the console giant to move forward with another purchase later on. While there was suspicion to more acquisitions to take place, it was uncertain of what teams it would be.
Back in March, it was reported that Microsoft could be on the horizon of a new acquisition according to Kevin Gammil, General Manager of Game Development Experiences. In that, he stated the Xbox Game Studios has 16 developers. But it was later clarified by Microsoft that he mistakenly said 16 instead of 15 unintentionally.
But now in a new finding on Bankier.pl, Bloober Team is underway for a second inquiry of interviews for an acquisition of the small studio. In the documents provided, the developer is speaking with a dozen companies sprawling across Europe and three included in the United States. According to Video Game Chronicles, it is presumed the Bloober Team is up for sale based on the smaller stature of the studio.
Currently, the team is underway with the development for Xbox Series X exclusive The Medium. Even more, with the roots of this new experience being based off of Konami’s Silent Hill, Bloober Team also recruited the series’ Composer Akira Yamaoka to work on the OST for the next-generation title. Bloober Team is also working on the next-generation release for it’s 2017, cyberpunk thriller Observer.
Reflecting on the developer’s partnership with Microsoft to produce a unique title for its approaching console, some would assume that the firm is possibly working to acquire the Polish developer in the coming future.
What do you think about the idea of Microsoft acquiring Bloober Team?
