Senior designer Sage Merrill took time out in a recent Game Informer interview speaking at length about the newest features coming to Destiny Subclasses in the coming expansion, the Taken King, and just how that crazy space magic can be wielded by you.

Here’s our full breakdown on the interview and the details that came of it.

TTK SUBCLASS PROMO

Breaking Down The Titan Sunbreaker

Think thor meets Super Mario 3, in this new subclass.
Titans will be badder than ever  wielding hammers of flames and causing a general nuisance to everyone around them on the enemy side.

Titans have always been important to have around in PVE scenarios but this latest addition will be causing allot more ruckuss in PVP than ever before. Much more aggressive offensive abilities are on the way for Titans and not so much hiding in a bubble controlling a point of intersection.

TTK SUBCLASS 1

Don’t think the “controlling a point” will be going away with these flaming hammers though.. Merrill was quoted saying,
“Titans can make an area of fire around him, and while he’s standing in a pool of fire, his super goes down very slowly, so he can hold that space for a very long time. He’s all about shelling one area, moving to it, and fighting from that area.”

– sounds very similar to going against a Titan using Ward Of Dawn, but blended with the SunSinger ability of the Warlock. The Titan will be more exposed seeing that a impenetrable bubble isn’t around him, but instead standing in a pool of fire that keeps his super charged over time and ready at the go.

As if that wasn’t deadly enough, Merrill went on to say, “Titans wielding Sunbreakers will have an attack where he lunges forward and uppercuts guys!”, Uppercuts?!? Tiger Uppercut?!
This new subclass will bring the Titan up in ranks and make him a very formidable opponent when playing against them in PVP.

Breaking Down The Warlock Stormcaller

Next up was the Warlock and his Stormcaller Subclass where guardians are levitated ever so slightly off the grown and given hand charged jolts of arc energy. It’s David Copperfield meets Emperor Palpatine!

TTK SUBCLASS 2
Merrill puts it like this, “He’s not very subtle – he basically electrocutes everybody like Emperor Palpatine,” “His melee is probably going to be the most contentious thing. He has a very long-range attack when his melee skill is charged up. It’s very hard to beat him in a melee fight from a distance. Warlocks should start getting used to engaging with melee early on. If they’re not going up against another Stormcaller in PvP he can win melee fights pretty easy.”

Searching the internet for video footage of this new shocking ability will bring back allot of results. You can tell guardians are already itching to try this new subclass out.

Breaking Down The Hunter Nightstalker

Like so many other guardians, I too took the Hunter way when Destiny first started last year. In my opinion this new Subclass for Hunter is the most exciting and functional looking one out of the three. Come on, who hasn’t wanted to dominate space and time with a purple bow?!

TTK SUBCLASS 3
Here’s what Merrill has to say on the new changes coming to the Hunter – “The Hunter has a bunch of toys. He has smoke grenades, and that debuff is much stronger if you hit people directly with the grenade than if people run through your smoke cloud later,” Merrill says. “His base super is also pretty complicated. He has the bow, and wherever his arrow hits he creates an anchor that reaches out and grab stuff. Anyone who is grabbed by that tether is debuffed, and in PvP it’s a hard stop to all supers. If you see a Titan and a Warlock coming into your base with their supers, you can hit above the door with your tether and it will shut them both down and hold them in place. It’s a great counter maneuver.”

Anyone that has been playing Destiny’s PVP up to this points has likely felt what its like to have a Titan come slamming in and wipe away your super. As a gunslinger it’s challenging to land all 3 (possibly 4 if you have the right gear) headshots, but at times can feel that insta shot kills are somehow more difficult than Fist Of Havock, aka “Titan Panicking” out of a situation.

The new tethering mechanic of the Hunters Nightstalker Subclass has me very excited as it looks as though PVP players will be held down and puts a hard stop to ALL supers. No worries with locking someone down only to have them super you anyway. This alone is a PVP changer for me and a reason to keep that super up and ready at all cost.
