Which came to be news to many fans, including myself, there was an apparent film based on Techland’s 2015 zombie free running title Dying Light in development, or at least it was. According to a previous report from Gamesradar, Techland did initially have a plan to bring their franchise to the theaters following the game’s release.
The Polish developer alongside Warner Bros. were to bring the film to reality deprived from those who shared this information from Techland. Lead Designer for the game, Tymon Smektala told the videogame outlet that conversation of the topic did surface quite a bit which included scripts for the film, screen writers, and concepts for how the film will translate to the big screen.
Even Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka gave some insight on the matter and detail on the situation for why the film has not come to be.
“We wouldn’t let someone independently do whatever they want with the brand and end up with a rubbish B movie or TV show. But if one day, let’s say, a producer or someone comes to us with a great idea then maybe. But right now we’re not actively looking. We want to make Dying Light 2 the best game for Dying Light players. And there’s only so much time we can spend doing other stuff.”
This however doesn’t rule out the chances of a film to come in the following years once Dying Light 2 launches and sets in public eye. Smektala on top of detailing discussion for the proposed movie also shared that the upcoming sequel will be better suit for a film adaptation. “I would rather see a movie about Dying Light 2, which I think is infinitely more interesting.”
Since Dying Light 2’s reveal back in E3 last year, developer Techland has yet to really showcase any more information regarding the forthcoming title disregarding what was already shown at the Los Angeles event. More is expected to be revealed according to Techland via Twitter.
