It was just last month in October that Microsoft dished the first wave of Project xCloud previews for Inside Xbox members to test the waters of the upcoming game streaming initiative for the Xbox platform. And while the tested service was only available for limited regions along with a catalog of four titles and being only available for Android devices, it was a matter of time until the preview full expanded later down the line.
That was when Microsoft disclosed at X019’s Inside Xbox live presentation just this month that project xCloud will receive an overhaul of supported titles, more region availability, and talks of the service’s arrival to PC. However, discussion for more to arrive to xCloud has also emerged this past weekend.
According to an interview with Stevivor, Project xCloud head of development Kareem Choudhry claimed that the initiative would expect exclusive projects later down the line. “In terms of exclusives, we’re in early talks with first and third parties, but we don’t have any announcements to share.” However, despite the statement coming directly from the team at Microsoft, this was later debunked to not be true after the fact.
While Choudhry did specify that discussion has commenced for unique intellectual properties to be developed for Project xCloud, that only left the implication for matter. Leaving only room for speculation to assume there is already has something planned, Microsoft later released a statement denouncing the initial claim following media coverage which stretched the truth in reality.
As shared by a spokesperson who represents Microsoft:
We’re very early in the multi-year journey for Project xCloud, which is currently in public preview. We are investigating a variety of new capabilities made possible by the cloud. However, we remain committed to an approach with game streaming that is complementary to console and have no plans for cloud-exclusive content at this time.
Although there is some credibility to both Choudhry’s statement alongside the following clarification made by Microsoft, there currently is no concrete plans to introduce exclusive projects to xCloud. However, that is until the service is well and settled into the market that Microsoft shares to look into later down the line.
What do you think would suit Project xCloud as an exclusive IP if there happens to be unique titles to the service?
