Last year, many of us would have just laughed off the idea of a Tetris-based battle royale seeing the meme on Twitter or other social media. But developer Arika alongside Nintendo launched Tetris 99 actually taking on the gag and making it a reality: the most shocking part is that it’s actually pretty fun.
Unlike the countless previous iterations that others have made out of the Tetris concept, 99 was solely online-online and required a constant internet connection to play the title. But now the coming content drop dubbed as the ‘Big Block DLC’ will bring two modes available to play offline at any time, but for a price.
For $9.99, players will receive the two offline modes to play Tetris 99 without the necessity of being connect to Wi-Fi:
- CPU Battle – a mode similar to how 99 already functions by helping player keen and hone their skill against 98 CPUs rather than more the aggressive currently in online lobbies.
- Marathon – the more traditional Tetris mode that millions are way too familiar with by stacking Tetrominoes for the highest score possible.
For those who haven’t been keeping up with the competitive scene surrounding the latest installment in the series, the upcoming 3rd Maximus Cup has advertised that those who earn 100 event points can turn them in for the classic Game Boy sin for the game’s overlay.
Tetris 99 is available for free for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
