When it comes to one of the most defining releases in the Fallout franchise, the most mentioned title could very likely be one not worked on directly by Bethesda. Instead, Obsidian Entertainment crafted together Fallout: New Vegas in 2010. Since its release, future installments like Fallout 4 has exceeded sales performance, but does not appear to bolster the same cult following more than a decade later since the title originally release.
Since then, hope has swelled in anticipation the teams silently are discussing potentially working on a follow-up. Back in 2018, the developer answered to one fan on Twitter that chances are extremely unlikely. But following both acquisitions of each firm from Xbox’s Microsoft, the team still did not have a definite answer on what the future holds. However, Jeff Grubb explained that the pair are in early discussion for a new collaboration just past February.
When speaking to Dualshockers recently, Obsidian Entertainment studio head Feargus Urquhart did share his hope that Fallout will be on the roadmap for the team once again after its current projects.
At some point we’ll start looking into what those next games are going to be, and I would be surprised if Fallout is not on that list. If we were to do Fallout, it has to tie in with what Bethesda is doing with Fallout and a lot of other things, but I would always personally say my hope is that before I ride off into the sunset, I’d love to make another Fallout game.
“Of course, if we ever got the opportunity to make another Fallout game, we’d make it. There’s not even a question of whether or not we would do it, it’s just ‘Will the opportunity arise?'” Urquhart further explained. “”I hung around at Interplay for probably an extra year because I wanted to work on Fallout more. I love Fallout.”
At least looking at to what is currently for the Fallout IP, expedition The Pitt released last month for Fallout 76. But, studio director Todd Howard did press on the next mainline installment. In that, Howard told IGN Fallout 5 is still many years away, but it is being concepted at the time. You can read the full report by heading here.
