Amsterdam-based studio Guerilla Games shared this past Thursday a tragedy among the staff at the developer that Lead Producer Patrick Munnik has unfortunately passed away at age 44. The cause of death for Munnik was not shared amid the saddening discovery, but it is said that he passed leaving behind his wife and children.
Guerilla Games took it to Twitter to make fans aware of the unfortunate news that occurred:
It is with great shock and sadness we inform you that our lead producer Patrick Munnik is no longer with us. We are eternally grateful to have had our greatly valued and much loved Patrick on our team. pic.twitter.com/IpeNvSMmht

Munnik joined the team at Guerilla Games back in 2011 and has worked on both 2013’s Killzone: Shadowfall and the following title, Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017. It is also expected that Munnik was working on the coming sequel that is planned for the action open-world title as actress Janina Gavankar seemingly revealed that a follow-up title is in the works.
Though the game has yet to receive a proper announcement from either Sony or Guerilla Games, it’s not certain when exactly the title will drop or if the sequel will be delayed following Munnik’s passing.
We at Rectify Gaming send our regards to those affected by Patrick Munnik’s death either that being within his family or those at Guerilla Games.
