Just last month, game studio Atomic Wolf shipped its inaugural title, Liberated. The game tells the story for a cast of characters living in a near-future dystopia where totalitarian surveillance on the people is regular and the occupants of the featured metropolis begin to band in efforts to topple the party in control. Through a group dubbed the ‘Liberated’, the stories between the characters intertwine through the vigilante group.
But unlike most 2D adventure platformers, Liberated illustrates its storytelling through the pages of a virtual comic book. Including a new an immersive take on the paperback approach that generations of readers are accustomed to with a layer of interactivity to give players control of the story when their playthrough begins.
This June, Liberated shipped exclusively to Nintendo Switch. But, it wasn’t long after that the developer during last month’s Guerrilla Collective shared that the project would be embarking PC the following month. And now, the title officially arrives to both Steam and GoG later today.
“Liberated is an action-adventure game that unfolds across the pages of a comic book, the synapse for the game reads on its Steam page. “Seamlessly merging the art of hand-drawn graphic novels with interactivity and side-scrolling action, it’s a revolutionary combination of video games and comics.”
Additionally, Liberated’s journey does not exactly end here after its arrival to keyboard & mouse users. It was shared prior to the game’s debut to the Nintendo eShop that the project can also expect console releases on both Microsoft’s and PlayStation’s platforms. But, despite how close we are to the shipping of the coming next-generation consoles, there is only confirmation that Liberated will receive current-generation versions.
