More than two years now since the original release of Metro Exodus, the future of the franchise continues to surface in recent months. This past August, it was revealed that Deep Silver, publisher for the Metro titles, its parent company acquired developer 4A Games. In the statement from Embracer Group, the game studio is now handed resources to pursue new projects altogether in and out of just Metro.
One of the projects planned for Metro is injecting the same PC characteristics into its console versions. For Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5, players can expect a new update which enables features like 4K resolution, 60 frames per second, raytracing, and even a field of view slider tossed in. This week, 4A Games shares that upgrade is to roll out in June.
Most exciting about the announcement is that current owners can find a title update which will enable the new enhancements for Metro Exodus next month. You can watch the preview trailer in the video below:
“Utilising the power of these new consoles, we have been able to include 4K*, 60 FPS, Ray Tracing throughout (including Ray Traced emissive lighting as pioneered in The Two Colonels), Field of View options and platform specific features such as spatial audio and controller latency improvements on Xbox, and support for the haptic features of the PlayStation 5 Dual Sense controller,” says the developer in an announcement post.
While not in correspondence to Metro Exodus, 4A Games does disclose it pursuits for future projects. One happens to be a multiplayer experience based in the game’s universe. While little is offered, Saber Interactive – a subsidiary of the same parent company – is said to be involved. The developer also told of plans to work on an entirely new IP as well.
