This week, news came out that Microsoft was planning to shutter multiple studios it has owned for the last several years. One of those studios was Ninja Theory, the developers of the Hellblade series and the recently announced Senua.
It has been reported by Game File that when Ninja Theory debuted its new game, Senua, at the Xbox Games Showcase event on June 7, 2026 that Microsoft had already made plans to shutter the studio. It is believed that by showing the game would help draw investor interest in the studio.
“By the time that game was revealed, Microsoft had already planned to sunset or split with the studio. The thinking was that the promise of a newly announced game would help draw investor interest in the studio, said Stephen Totilo at Game File
Asha Sharma is clearly wanting change at XBOX and more layoffs are expected to come around July as reports indicate. There’s also speculation of even more studios being considered to be closed.
