Nintendo is teasing more movies are coming

Nintendo released its latest financial results, and the company has possibly teased what else could be coming aside from games in the future. The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023 was a big hit for Nintendo on the big screen, and it looks like that was just the start of their adventures in films.

In 2026, we can expect The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and in 2027, we will have the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, which is in partnership with Sony.

There is clearly more coming from Nintendo when it comes to movies because in the second quarter financial results, Nintendo shared a graphic showcasing the three known films they have released or are still working on. After that, there are two open slots with a big question mark on them.

Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, shared the following: “We are continuing to prepare for the ongoing release of movies in the future.” 

Could A Donkey Kong Movie Be Next?

While Nintendo has been quiet about it, in July, a joint copyright was found online between Universal Studios and Nintendo for a Donkey Kong Movie. There wasn’t an official title for this project. The copyright just read it as “Untitled Donkey Kong Project”.

As for the other films that could be in the early stages, it could be any of Nintendo’s IP or it could be the continuation of the Mario series.
