It has been more than a year since discussing upcoming indie title The Last Night. Since the debut of the pixelated cyberpunk title back at E3 in 2017, there hasn’t been much news that followed up on what’s been happening with UK developer Odd Tales nor what progress has been made on the anticipated game.
Recently the game’s Director Tim Soret made a thread on Twitter updating fans on what’s been happening with the currently developed title. In celebration of the New Year, Soret bearing good news, along with some bad news regarding why the studio has been silent for the past year and a half. The biggest being the game missing its 2018 release due to legal troubles that couldn’t be discussed publicly.
Then…
– We encountered massive business, legal & funding issues we can't talk about.
– We had to cancel a new trailer of The Last Night at The Game Awards 😰
– We're currently raising funds, so get in touch: [email protected]— Tim Soret (@timsoret) December 31, 2018
Despite the handful of endeavors Odd Tales surpassed like finding a settled studio on top of expanding on the game’s code & visuals, legalities overtook direction of the game and are met with a delay to continue development towards the game’s release. Soret even details in one of his tweets that a trailer for this year’s Game Awards was set to release, but was ultimately cancelled following the mentioned conflicts the studio faces.
Hopefully Odd Tales is able to settle what’s holding back the game from finishing development for players to experience. Seeing how the visuals have improved, as seen in the thread, the graphical improvement surmount what we initially experienced and make me more eager than ever to get my hands on the game.
The Last Light is listed for Xbox One and PC with no set release date as of yet.
