This year’s installment for the Pokémon franchise arrives just next Friday with the release of titular Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. This past few weeks, for those who have been keeping a close eye in the community, have noticed the slew of leaks that have surface revealing new and returning Pokémon to the Galar region including more Gigantamax forms of pre-existing creatures.

However, a new piece of information regarding the upcoming duology of Pokémon titles have came straight from the mouth of Nintendo this time: revealing that there will of course be a themed Tetris 99 event this weekend for players to unlock a new board for the game.

Provided from the brief trailer for the game, players will have the opportunity to play the online tetrinome stacker with ques and other sound quips from the Pokémon series. From the tone of the a potion being used to the blast of a fatal hit being administered to an opposing player, this all unravels to be an nostalgic trip for players looking to combine that with Tetris.

Alike all previous events hosted for Nintendo’s first-party lineup, players looking to unlock the next Tetris board for this collection will have to rack up an even 100 event points.

Just less than a month ago, Nintendo revealed that Luigi’s Mansion 3 will receive its own specialized event offering a unique board decorated to the spooky and atmospheric appearance that the then-upcoming title is known for.

What game do you think might be next to get the Tetris 99 treatment?

Tetris 99 is out now for Nintendo Switch; Pokémon Sword & Shield are scheduled to release on November 15, 2019.
