Today we are taking a look at Cyberconnect2’s latest anime fighter, Demon Slayer. Based on the extremely popular anime.
Demon Slayer, like the Naruto games before it is 3D arena tag fighting game. Their tag style is back and better than ever with all the usual tricks of the trade. Tags, combo breaks and tag assists, while keeping all the visual flair you would expect from one of their games.
The other major hook outside of its gameplay design is the well done story mode. At the start of the game, you only have 2 characters, and after each chapter of the story, more characters and costumes will be unlocked.

In a lot of ways this game feels like the Naruto Storm system was vastly overhauled.es, The varied roster, while not huge, offers a lot of variety in character styles and abilities. As somebody who isn’t a huge fan of any of the anime, it does a great job at selling it’s world and each characters unique skills and abilities.
One of the major issues with Naruto titles, was the gameplay usually ended up making characters feel the same.
That fear dissipates shortly after playing Demon Slayer because each character feels pretty unique. A simplified control scheme with some standardized inputs and auto combo’s are deceiving. The game has a lot of depth and the characters are all pretty nuanced. Tag mechanics and insanely flashy ultimate techniques are all jaw dropping.

The game also has a decent story mode that tries it’s best to conjure up some insane reason for all of these characters to come together, well done training modes and well done netcode all add up to a stellar package.
As somebody who wasn’t a fan of this anime before, this game has increased my interest and has me curious to go back and comitt to watching the show in it’s entirety.
It runs great and performs well, as long as you don’t mind the 30fps. A patch will come soon and unlock 60fps for next gen consoles and PC soon. At this point, more free characters are also going to be added to the game to add much needed depth to the roster.
If you are a fan of fighting games and are getting a tad bored with your current favorite, make sure to give Demon Slayer a look. It plays great, has a ton of unique characters and has something for casual and hardcore fans alike.
