This latest entry in the lineup for Call of Duty’s yearly installment, Modern Warfare, takes the basis of the 2007 titular title and reinvents the experience to a new meta introducing new aspects whilst staying close to the source material that defines the entirety of the franchise. The experimental pursuit taken by Infinity Ward lead the game to be one of the most successful titles for 2019 alongside being the first AAA title to incorporate full on cross-platform play at launch.

And while Activision enters 2020 on a high note with the addition of free-to-play Warzone which launched this month, discussion has already begun regarding the next entry that is inevitable to arrive later this fall.

According to TheGamingRevolution on YouTube, the user discloses that sources familiar with this year’s game is to be taking the same route as Modern Warfare with a complete reboot of the Black Ops series. You can view the video in full below:

Pacing back a few months in 2019, it was reported that developer Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software had an escalated disagreement on the development for the 2020 Call of Duty game which resulted with the two being repositioned as support developers, leaving Treyarch to develop this year’s game. At the time, the unannounced project was shared to be the fifth installment for the Black Ops saga.

Regarding the latest rumor, sources share that the rebooted entry would return protagonists Alex Mason and Frank Woods with a more in-depth approach to the events of the Cold War and Vietnam War. Certain aspects unique to the campaign for the 2010 title like gore and Cold War interrogations are said to return and up the ante on realism compared to the November-released title.

The anonymous source also sheds some light on the multiplayer portion of the game which claims that familiar killstreaks like UAV, flamethrower, and air-bound artillery to be making its way into the game. Operators that we just grew accustomed to will be making a return too with their own Cold War twist, however, Treyarch unique Specialists will not be making an appearance in the alleged game.

In a claim made by a separate source, the notorious zombies mode is said to return with a new campaign centered on the setting of the Vietnam War. Unlike the cost-free content architecture of Modern Warfare, a Season Pass is said to be “considered” by Treyarch. With the departure of Jason Bundell, it will be interesting how the claimed reboot will approach zombies without his influence on the game in 2020.

TheGamingRevoultion later on shared that despite there being no mentions of a battle royale mode for the rebooted Black Ops title, there is something of the like scheduled to release the year after. Disclosing to be developed by Sledgehammer Games, elements of the popular game mode with open world characteristics are told to be in 2021-aimed project.

As with any rumor, it is suggested to take what you read as conjecture and not fact until properly addressed by the mentioned companies. Would you be fine with Treyarch taking the similar approach Infinity Ward did with Modern Warfare?
