Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a story-driven action adventure set in a charming world rich with exploration and fast-paced combat. Players find and grow a team of tiny spirit companions called the Rot, enhancing their abilities and creating new ways to manipulate the environment.

Kena, a young Spirit Guide, travels to an abandoned village in search of the sacred mountain shrine. She struggles to uncover the secrets of this forgotten community hidden in an overgrown forest where wandering spirits are trapped.

However, not all is lost. In fact, select digital-only titles faced redemption in a recent string of collaborations. Over at Limited Run Games, the firm established three games are receiving physical releases on Xbox: Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Grounded. Of course, many are still anticipating that list could grow sometime in the future, but that has yet to be addressed.

And amid this questioning state of physical support for Xbox, it appears that Microsoft is readjusting its packaging for physical copies. According to listings over on Video Games Plus as well as Limited Run Games, there is a new design on the product images for both Kena: Bridge of Spirits & Clock Tower Rewind.

Recently, Ember Labs announced that the 2021 release Kena: Bridge of Spirits is finally launching on Xbox. The game originally shipped on PlayStation 5 with Xbox users awaiting a port for Xbox. It is prepared to launch August 15th for Xbox with both physical as well as digital versions of Kena: Bridge of Spirits costing $39.99.

This is not the first instance that Microsoft has readjust its packaging for Xbox Series X. While the initial announcement took place during summer 2020, the game took an additional year for development to roll out. It was not until the following September that Kena: Bridge of Spirits officially released. Following in October that same year, Ember Lab released a new update adding photo mode to the game which is greatly appreciated.

In a new exclusive report from IGN, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is receiving new game+ in the newest update scheduled for September. Additionally, the game is also launching on Steam as well. You can watch the trailer in the video below:

But, that changes this week. In a new update that went live for Kena: Bridge of Spirits for Patch 1.11, Ember Labs notes that the new client will feature the addition. Additionally, there are also some festive apparel to get for your Rot as well. “Happy Halloween! We’ve hidden 3 new hats in the game that will only be around through November 1st,” the team writes.

Atop of that, the Kena: Bridge of Spirits patchwork also welcomes improved capture resolution for photo mode as well. Additionally, Ember Labs went on to note improvements to saving data with more auto-save slots are now available in-game. Another niché doing on behalf of Ember Labs is location thumbnails on save files alongside meditation spot tracking as well.

Following that, Sony Interactive Entertainment listed the game to arrive sometime in March 2021. However, the PlayStation company quickly retracted the original claim by altering the ending of the original trailer. It was not until February that Ember Lab officially announced Kena: Bridge of Spirits is to ship in August this year.

But now just less than a month away, Ember Lab in a new update on Twitter announced to push the game’s release just over three weeks further from arriving for the betterment of the game when it launches.

“The team has been working extremely hard and we feel the extra time is critical to ensure the best experience possible,” the studio writes in the letterhead. “We know many of you are eager to play and we appreciate your patience as the team continues to work on delivering the best version of Kena: Bridge of Spirits.”

Of course, this also indicates that the game’s timed-exclusivity for PlayStation consoles will be extended to honor the agreement between Sony Interactive Entertainment & Ember Lab. Fans on Xbox will not find the game hit the Microsoft Store until September 2022 at the earliest.

With a broader release window now propped for Kena: Bridge of Spirits, it is overwhelming for fans that were initially anticipating the promised holiday release previously. But, there did happen to be some hope which sprouted in a PlayStation 5 promo revealing the game scheduled to arrive in March this year. However, Sony Interactive Entertainment went its way to hammer down any speculation by doctoring the video later on.

Aside from the base version of Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Ember Labs also announces the Digital Deluxe Edition for the game. The contents of the higher tier includes the following: Kena: Bridge of Spirits, digital album, golden rot skin, and unique Kena staff. Additionally, Ember Labs reiterates on support for cross-buy between PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5 stating either edition will provide entry to the other platform.

Elsewhere in the livestreamed presentation this week, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. While not the second issue of three for the remade experience, Intergrade is an extension of the story with Yuffie Kisaragi featured as a playable character. In a new finding from Gematsu this afternoon, it is discovered that Sony Interactive Entertainment altered the original trailer as the same listings are now removed. You can view the comparison in the tweet below:

As for the game’s featured in the trailer-ending subtext, it is issued that majority of these releases are propped to arrive throughout the course of 2021 and the years to follow. The titles in particular are Pragmata, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Stray, GhostWire: Tokyo, Project Athia, Little Devil Inside, and Solar Ash. Those projects received a proper introduction during the PlayStation 5 showcase earlier in June 2020.

But now, the same listings seemed to voided as Sony Interactive Entertainment decided to retract the information from the trailer altogether. As of writing, there is no clear motive released by the firm in regards for the decision made.

Most notably from the details spared in the original trailer happened to circle around Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Although framed to release in the PlayStation 5 launch window, the new trailer happened to insist a more general 2021 release which worried fans the game could be delayed. At the time, it was disclosed that Kena: Bridge of Spirits would be scheduled to release sometime in Q1 2021. But, no further details were provide to include an approximate understanding as for when the title will launch. But given how broad of a timeframe the first financial quarter will be for the coming year, a new update has emerged on the game.

Although it does not provide an exact date, it is understood that Kena: Bridge of Spirits will be releasing in March this year. The information was discovered in the latest PlayStation 5 promotional video which you can watch below:

“Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Part II footage captured on PS4. Slated for a holiday 2020 release, the game was posed to hit PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC first with remaining platforms to sit out the title’s release. But now, it looks that due to complications within the firm’s progress for the coming project, the title is now set to face an unfortunate delay.

In a letterhead posted on the team’s Twitter account, Ember Labs shares that Kena: Bridge of Spirits will be releasing sometime during the first financial quarter in 2021.

“This year has brought many challenges and out transition to working from home has caused development to move slower than we hoped. For this reason, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of Kena: Bridge of Spirits to Q1, 2021.

Not only will the game be facing a later release than anticipated due to the precautions imposed by the occurring pandemic, but the same is also expected to be for other platform users awaiting for the respected port to ship after the game’s release. As for the new timeframe for the 2021 title, expect Kena: Bridge of Spirits to ship sometime between April to June next year.

In previous news disclosed by Ember Labs, the developer disclosed in a response on Twitter that users who pay for the PlayStation 4 version for Kena: Bridge of Spirits can upgrade to the next-generation version on PlayStation 5 for free. You can read the full report by heading here.

On Twitter, user @Proud2beGeechie asked the development studio how the game will be dealt between platforms and if the title would be compatible for cross-buy support. Where Ember Labs confirms that Kena: Bridge of Spirits will offer a free upgrade to the new console.

Howbeit, despite the developer verifying that the game will be offering an upgrade of sorts to PlayStation 5 owners later on, the offer will be on a time restraint. Taken from the statement in the post, Ember Labs does disclose that there will be a “time limit”, essentially nodding to the game being an upgrade for a limited time following its release later on.

And while Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a timed console exclusive on PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5, it is currently uncertain as to how that will operate on Xbox. Presumably, it is plausible the team will elaborate on Smart Delivery for the title when the respected versions are announced. But for now, it is difficult to determine if that will come to fruition.
