Nintendo has revealed its plans for San Diego Comic-Con 2026 and it includes first United States hands on with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort.

The Nintendo booth will be in full force at this convention. It will be located in Hall A – Booth #235 on the showroom floor. It’s going to feature Splatoon Raiders which will be launching that weekend (July 23 – 26).

Starting at 9:30 AM PT inside The Pointe in the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, attendees can play Nintendo Switch Sports Resort there. It seems that Nintendo will not have it on the showroom floor like with Splatoon. To get hands on with the new Switch Sports game, it will be a first come/first serve queue where visitors can wait for the opportunity to try out the game.

Another unique opportunity Nintendo is hosting is that attendees can compete against The Rizzler in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. This will happen on July 23 between 1:30-3:30 PM PT in The Promenade at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel. Participants for this is going to be randomly selected by Nintendo event staff. There will be no prizes for this experience.

It looks like Nintendo will only have two games during San Diego Comic-Con weekend with Splatoon Raiders getting the decked out booth on the showroom floor.

Now a year after the initial beginning of lockdowns and other precautionary measures in regards to the novel coronavirus, society looks to finally be taking a turn for the better as vaccines are being administered by the millions in the United States and restraints are being loosened by states respectively. However, that does not directly mean events are entirely back. Alike 2020’s San Diego Comic-Con, organizers tell a similar story for this year as well.

In a new press release from the Comic-Con group, the event scheduled for July later this year has been shelved for another year. Howbeit, plans to follow with another Comic-Con@Home virtual event is said to take place for a second consecutive year. In that, attendees can enjoy the same content online without the need to travel or pay for admission in this new approach.

Here is a segment from the press release which you can read below:

It is the policy of the organization to continue to closely monitor information from local and national healthcare officials as it pertains to the COVID-19 pandemic. Never could we have imagined what the world experienced in 2020 and continues to experience today.

While we are buoyed by the rollout of the vaccine and the growing number of individuals being inoculated, it appears that July will still be too early to safely hold an in-person event of the magnitude of Comic-Con.

For this reason, we have made the challenging decision to postpone Comic-Con 2021 as an in-person gathering until our 2022 dates, and once again hold this year’s celebration as the free online Comic-Con@Home. Unfortunately, the challenges of this past year and the multiple postponements of our two largest events have left us with limited financial resources, so this year the online experience will be reduced to a three-day event, spanning July 23-25, 2021.

But to reiterate on the advancements of the pandemic as stated at the beginning of the article, the organizers do acknowledge more clarity on hosting a tester show later this fall if things do happen to restore order for the masses later. “For this reason, we are happy to announce that San Diego Comic Convention is planning to present a three-day in-person convention in San Diego in November.

“At this time, we are still working on specific details as to attendance capacity, badge cost, and related information, and those details will be forthcoming.” While Comic-Con is still adamant on hosting its online alternative in replacement for its July show, Penny Arcade is eager to return to normal starting in June. In that, the group announces to be hosting PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts later this year. You can read the full report by heading here.

Did you plan to attend San Diego Comic-Con this year?

Comic-Con@Home is said to take place from July 23, 2021 to July 25, 2021.

Back in April when concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic continued to swell, Comic-Con organizers announced that the titular San Diego event set to take place later this summer in July has been cancelled due to the urgent situation that has engulfed global society. Spokesperson David Glanzer at the time of reporting disclosed that the group is looking to position a virtual event is response to the physical show being cancelled for 2020.

Now in a new update posted recently, Comic-Con has returned to share that the organization will be hosting a showcase uniquely online dubbed Comic-Con@Home. This new show residing within the confines of the internet will be taking place during the same timeframe as the initially scheduled event with one additional day: July 22 – July 26.

Plans for Comic-Con@Home include an online Exhibit Hall complete with everyone’s favorite exhibitors offering promotions, specials, and limited-edition products unique to the celebration. As well, Comic-Con@Home promises exclusive panels and presentations about comics, gaming, television, film, and a wide variety of topics from publishers, studios, and more. As if that weren’t enough, Comic-Con@Home will also have a Masquerade, gaming, and many other activities in which fans can participate from their own homes.

Despite the unfortunate circumstance at hand for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the group is ecstatic to invite fans from every corner of the world for the first time in the history of the show’s commencement. “For the first time in our 50-year history, we are happy to welcome virtually anyone from around the globe. Though stay-at-home conditions make this a very difficult time, we see this as an opportunity to spread some joy and strengthen our sense of community,” Glanzer states on the new announcement.”

Elsewhere, we have witnessed organizers attempt to proceed with in-person shows in the latter of 2020, but its ambitions were later retracted as the virus’ forecast does not look to clear up. Informa Tech shared to be hosting GDC Summer this coming August, but recently pulled the event in San Francisco for an online, alternative show.
Are you planning on tuning in to Comic-Con@Home later next month.

Comic-Con@Home is set to begin on July 22, 2020 and run until July 26, 2020.

Alongside the saddening news for anticipated participants planning to visit San Diego this summer, the organizers also disclosed that this being the second tough decision following the push for WonderCon now scheduled for March 2021.

Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures and while we are saddened to take this action, we know it is the right decision. We eagerly look forward to the time when we can all meet again and share in the community we all love and enjoy.
David Glanzer, Comic-Con Spokesperson

Simultaneously during the initial announcement, elsewhere Comic-Con shared on Twitter to be looking for alternatives to lighten the blow on this year’s now-cancelled show. “We are exploring the possibility of an online presence that should give us all an opportunity to share in the community for which Comic-Con is famous.”

As for those who already paid their admission for the show, Comic-Con disclosed that attendees will be emailed within the coming week on the route to receive a refund. However, participants who initially planned to attend may also transfer their admission to the show for next year in 2021. Exhibitors are also granted the same ordeal if preferring to be granted a refund or convert its position for 2021 instead.

Alongside the disappointing new information on the canning of Sand Diego Comic-Con, the organizers also disclosed that the tension birthed by the ongoing pandemic has also affected the construction of the upcoming Comic-Con Museum planning to open in mid 2021.Telling to be “rephasing the Museum’s initially planned major renovations,” but it will not compromise the experience envisioned for future attendees when the grand opening arrives.

This looks to be developing more of a trend for approaching summer events as QuakeCon previously fallen victim to COVID-19 last month. While other organizers are cashing in on August like Informa Tech’s Game Developers Conference later this year, more shows pulling out a month prior could potentially entail that even late summer to early fall might still be too optimistic in the current situation regarding the pandemic.
