To give some context for the current understanding of the multiplayer portion for The Last of Us; players could join online lobbies and pose as a selection of different characters through the onslaught of different competitive modes. Devoted fans of the multiplayer portion for the game anticipated for the upcoming sequel have waited for Naughty Dog to make the announcement showcasing where it will stand for the February-scheduled follow-up.
However, that does not look to be the case according to USGamer who reported that The Last of Us Part II will not include online matchmaking. Speaking with Lead Game Designer Emilia Schatz, the developer clarifies that the studio wants to focus the game’s direction towards a single player-only experience.
We’re focusing on a single-player experience, so we’re just making a single-player game for this.
To further hammer in the nail, Sony later then verified that the game will not be offering any kind of multiplayer through email to the video game outlet. “Correct, it is a single player game.” Despite the unsatisfying news that players cannot indulge in online gunfights, the idea of Naughty Dog scrapping online was unearthed just a few months back.
In a Reddit post back in June, a user discovered on the Days of Play specialized PlayStation 4 bundle that the forthcoming Naughty Dog title will “not support online multiplayer.” However, many users did disregard the discovery due to the fact that Kurt Margenau and Anthony Newman, co-Directors for the project confirmed last E3 that the game will feature multiplayer. So at some point following the annual event Naught Dog decided to refocus the game to a story-focused experience.
The Last of Us Part II will be available for PlayStation 4 on February 21, 2019.
