Microsoft Is Slowly Retracting The Optimized Stickers On Xbox Series X Cases

Halfway through this past month, the first glimpse at the Xbox Series X physical game case was presented showcasing what fans can look forward to when picking up the respected title at retail establishments. However, while the PlayStation 5 aims to differentiate its case from the current PlayStation 4, Microsoft’s ambitions aimed towards a more included approach for the new platform.

Rather than the top portion of the case reading Xbox Series X, it simply displayed ‘Xbox’ emphasizing the rebranding for the unit alongside remaining neutral to other platforms the game could be compatible under the name. However, for consumers to understand if the game is playable on Xbox Series X, the firm stamped on a large optimization sticker on the front of the case.

The decision swiftly brewed up complaints from users online for how absurdly large the label is on the front which was then followed by hyperbolic mockups of the sticker taking over the entire case. However, it looks Microsoft is listening as the firm has been found removing the optimized sticker from its cases. Niko Partners’ David Ahmad shared the finding on Twitter with the cover for Codemasters’ Dirt 5.

Now, consumers can only rely on the labeling at the top if the game will support Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or both. Ahmad does share in the thread that the sticker has been repositioned to the back of the case. Adding on, he tells that the label on the backside is more “subtle” and less immediate to the large optimized logo used originally.

Elsewhere, The Verge’s Tom Warren also predicts that the label will also be relocated to the back of the case also. On recent news for the Xbox Series X, platform head Phil Spencer when speaking on a podcast disclosed that new information – specifically hardware – will be presented later in August.
