When comparing the Xbox One to its upcoming and fast approaching successor Xbox Series X, there is a clear contrast when looking at the technological integrity of both systems. Even comparing the 2013 unit to the sibling Xbox Series S console,  there is a power difference that the base hardware is unable to achieve in meeting today’s standards.

But despite that, Microsoft is not abandoning its system so soon. In fact, it has already signaled to be supporting the system for the next year or two with its first-party releases as they come. Xbox Game Studios lead Matt Booty issued the statement back in January sharing that the console is far from dead.

But even more, Microsoft is also currently developing new ways for players to continue experience gaming on the Xbox One. One approach being via xCloud: a game-streaming initiative allowing users vacant of the hardware to play games at any time. When speaking to Kotaku recently, Xbox head Phil Spencer offered that the internal teams at Microsoft are investigating on how the firm bridges the next-generation with the current.

When we think about Xbox One, absolutely, we think it could be a good way for us to bridge generations and be able to let people play those games. I don’t think it’s years off. It’s just work to get done. We know how to do it.

Most interesting is that the feature is not too far off as Spencer puts it. He states that xCloud integration is fairly close to where we already stand, “I don’t think it’s years off,” he comments. It isn’t news that Microsoft is already pursuing supporting Xbox One with the service either. Spencer on Twitter earlier in October disclosed to be developing a way for Xbox Game Pass users on PC and console to stream demos before installing the desire title.

Additionally on the difference of next-generation and current consoles, Spencer told Kotaku that the teams at Microsoft is searching for ways to reduce the file size of the approaching first-party releases. You can read the full report by heading here.

Do you think Microsoft will manage to bring xCloud to Xbox One in the coming future?
