Another console generation also means another batch of new media applications for the aforementioned video game systems. Well, that is at least for the PlayStation 5. As many are already familiar, Microsoft already launched its revamped UI interface for Xbox which will stands as a universal dashboard across consoles and its platforms on PC and mobile as well.
So while the same applications are to be arriving to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the same cannot be said for PlayStation 5. Thankfully, Sony made a new blog post recently disclosing that over a handful of media applications will be primed for the next-generation PlayStation 5 at launch.
You can read the full lineup in the list below:
Apple TV
Disney+
Netflix
Spotify
Twitch
YouTube
Sony also goes to mention other notable platforms that will be receiving support for PlayStation 5 as well: Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, MyCanal, Peacock. More notably, another streaming platform has also been confirmed elsewhere for PlayStation 5 at launch – Crunchyroll. The Verge Writer Taylor Lyles on Twitter posted an update confirming the statement given by a spokesperson representing the company.
In hindsight for the streaming applications coming to newer systems, it should be mentioned that some are outdated and need to be reinvigorated. Such as YouTube which lacks fundamental features found on the desktop version like the option to shuffle a playlist for instance.
