Among the 3D fighting games that were in the market at the time of its announcement, Jump Force remains to be the most unique in its entrance to the world. Namely due to the unveiling taking place at an Xbox press conference: the ‘Jump’ series derives from the titular magazine which is popular over in Japan. In summary, the game offers a similar fighting experience whilst clashing favorite anime/manga series into one.

From our review for the game, “Jump Force has the difficult task of bringing together multiple fan-favorite characters into a smooth and engaging fighting game. For the most part, Spike ChunSoft and Bandai Namco nail the fighting mechanics and visuals to create a fun and fast-paced fighter,” critic David Rodriguez writes at the time.

“While I wish the story was more engaging and featured some character development, there is still fun to be had in character customization and local/online multiplayer. Perhaps the inclusion of future characters and missions can keep the fanbase engaged and happy for years to come.”

That being the case or not nearly than three years later, Bandai Namco announces to be dissolving digital sales & online servers for the game later on in 2022. “Our sincere thanks goes out to all Jump Force players and fans for their support; but with all good things, they must come to an end,” the firm shares on Twitter.

So in total, the announcement does send shockwaves to active users learning that the game will be sunsetting the game fairly soon. Come February 7, purchases for the game of any form will be delisted. The same can also be accounted for purchasing add-ons such as the dozen+ DLC characters introduced in the game’s post-launch campaign.

More notably, come August 25 is where the game’s online services will be squandered. Competing in online matches, leaderboards, and any clan functions will be unavailable. The reasoning for the decision is not clarified, but, it is likely suggested that licensing for the multiple franchises has been concluded.

Are you surprised by the announcement happening so soon?

Jump Force is out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch; available via backwards compatibility for Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5.
