Smash.gg, which has been without a doubt the best online tournament platform for esports competition is getting rebranded. Today, Microsoft announced that Smash.gg will now be called Start.gg with a brand new look to the logo and with features debuting on May 16, 2022.

In case you missed the news in 2020, Microsoft acquired Smash.gg which you can read more about here.

If you are questioning the idea of the new name, it could have been worse as quoted below:

“We could have created some crazy new name that was a curious portmanteau, missing essential vowels and riddled with hype, but really, why? In the end, it’s not about hype. It’s about community. And we believe that the most basic concept in the gaming community is the concept of starting. “

With this rebrand comes new features as well and if you are someone that is looking for in person events that are near you, there will be something for that finally. Not only that they are working on creating a personalized algorithm for you so the homepage will be related to the games you love the most.

Start.gg will be teaming up with Xbox Game Pass Combo Breaker, CEO and others for the Launch League to celebrate the launch of the new look. You can find event details here.

What are your thoughts on the rebranding for Smash.gg?
