It had been known that Rebellion had been developing a Sniper Elite Battle Royale game which was internally referred to as Sniper Island. It was first announced in August 2024 and was publicly known as Project Archipelago, a team-based multiplayer Battle Royale where teams of three would battle to be the last to survive, similar to Apex Legends.

According to Insider Gaming and their sources, Project Archipelago has been canceled because Tencent decided to stop funding the project. The reason for the halt to funding is due to the launch of Concord which has caused companies like Tencent to be hesitant about some of its projects including this one.

The report states that the cancellation has not affected anyone’s employment. Staff previously assigned to Project Archipelago will be shifted to other projects, including Sniper Elite: Resistance.
