Although Nintendo is rolling out the Nintendo Switch 2 this summer – an iteration on the Nintendo Switch – it has proven to be more than a surface level improvement from the prior hardware. One of the biggest jumps is the features included in the new device including 120hz, 4K rendering, and even 3D spatial audio never achievable on the older system.
Another aspect that Nintendo Switch was not introduced to was 64 GB cartridges. In the announcement for CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, the game will be complete on the new media. Additionally, Nintendo via a support page revealed there are also the new ‘Game-Key Card’ which will act as a key to properly install the game through an online download too.
A feature that has been present on Xbox & PlayStation for years. In that same vein, there is another aspect that appears to be included as well for Nintendo Switch 2: achievements. Revealed through the Zelda Notes app, there is a section in the ‘Global Play Data’ tab that lists milestones to complete in both Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom that your account can reflect. Even gameplay for Mario Kart World appears to be offering its own version as well. You can view that in the video below:
“This game-specific service is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of the games and helps players navigate to various locations, like that difficult-to-find shrine or hidden Korok, and will even feature commentary from Princess Zelda herself that was not part of the original games,” Nintendo elaborate on the app for Zelda Notes in the press release.
Paying attention to the wording, this can potentially expand to other games as well. “Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.” While Nintendo Switch does not support this it does appear that, at least, first-party titles could be what pioneers this new integrated system to the platform. Thus far, it has confirmed roughly a dozen titles are to receive enhancements for legacy titles alongside native releases. You can read the full report by heading here.
Do you think Nintendo will offer achievements to more games outside of these examples?
