
After the complete turnaround for Cyberpunk 2077 and the release of its story expansion ‘Phantom Liberty’, developer CD Projekt Red has continued to speak on its next project for the IP. In early 2024, narrative director Igor Sarzyński spoke that compared to the sequel, the first game is them “just getting started”. Additionally, job listings have gone to also reveal potential multiplayer aspects to come in the follow-up.
Other announcements for Cyberpunk 2077 also includes another animated partnership with Netflix. Following the success of its Studio Trigger anime ‘Edgerunners’, a new animation is underway at the streamer. Also, Nintendo Switch 2 is to launch with Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition welcoming a native port of the game to the platform finally.
Still unsure when the next Cyberpunk 2077 game is to release, creator Mike Pondsmith did share new information on the new game. When speaking at Digital Dragons 2025, he disclosed that Project Orion is to feature an entirely new city separate from Night City. You can watch the segment in the video below:
“Last week, I was wondering around talking to departments and seeing what they had like, ‘oh look, this is the new cyberware, what do you think?’” Pondsmith explained. “I spent a lot of time talking to one of the environment guys and he was explaining how the new place in Orion, cause it’s another city we visit. I’m not telling you anymore than that.”
Pondsmith continues: “I remember looking at and going, ‘yeah, I understand the feel you’re going for this and this really does work and it doesn’t feel like Bladerunner.’ It feels more like Chicago gone wrong. And I said, ‘yeah, I can see this working.’” CD Projekt Red is also underway on The Witcher IV. But in a previous earnings call it confirmed to come sometime after 2026.
