How to get Shark Fin Path of Exile 2

Discover everything you need to know about acquiring and using Shark Fin in Path of Exile 2, including the rewards.

Shark Fin is a unique item in Path of Exile 2 that has been troubling most players throughout Act 4. Acquiring this item is not easy, as it requires you to defeat a boss on Whakapanu Island. If by any chance you obtain the Shark Fin, you need to learn how to use it.

This is a quest-related item that will trigger a side quest after getting it from the boss. Turning in this mysterious item to a special NPC allows you to gain a reward. In this guide, we’ll discuss how to get and use Shark Fin in Path of Exile 2.

How To Get Shark Fin in PoE 2

Shark Fin in Path of Exile 2 is a special quest item that is directly linked to the Tribal Medicine quest. This item is obtained by defeating the Great White One boss in Act 4. Make your way to Whakapanu Island to encounter this final boss. You can enter this island by progressing the story to Act 4, where you can travel to the Karui archipelago and find King’s Marge to hire a ship and set sail for the island.

You can find the boos in the first area of Whakapanu Island. Equip your best weapon, as the boss isn’t easy to defeat and can be a bit challenging. The Shark Pit section of the map has the highest chance of spawning a boss. However, the item itself says, “The sea gave it strength. Now it serves a greater Purpose.”

How to Use Shark Fin in Path of Exile 2

Interacting with the Shark Fin in PoE 2 allows the quest “Tribal Medicine” to appear on the screen. The objective of this side quest that is required to complete is to find the use of the Shark Fin. Now, your goal is to make your way to the Ngakanu and rescue Kaimana by defeating the enemies. Kaimana will insist on eliminating Tavakai, the Tukohama Chieftain, who is located at the Heart of the Tribe (Kingsmarch town). Kaimana will be available here close to the docks.

Speak with her, and she will ask for the Shark Fin that you previously acquired from Whakapanu Island. After exhausting some dialogue, you will give the Shark Fin to her, which she will utilize in medicine. You didn’t get the medicine, but you will gain some reward options.

Rewards for Completing the Tribal Medicine Quest

Kaimana will use the Shark Fin to cure a blood fever, and you can get an Uncut Gem as a reward. However, you are bound to choose only one, so make a wise decision according to the build you’re running. The Uncut Gems that you can choose from are the following.

  • Uncut Skill Gem (Level 11)
  • Uncut Spirit Gem (Level 11)
  • Uncut Support Gem (Level 4)

The Uncut Skill Gem is used to create a new skill gem or take the existing gem to level 11. Use Uncut Spirit Gem to create a buff skill gem or Uncut Support Gem for making a powerful support gem. Keep in mind that the game provides several Uncut Gems, so choose the right one that can make your build more powerful. Selecting the best one can shape your character and make you a powerful player that the enemies will be afraid of.

Hi, I’m Ali. I started gaming with Max Payne, and it set the tone for my interest in darker, more immersive experiences. I mostly play soulslikes, RPGs, and FPS titles that focus on tight mechanics and pacing.

I have a strong appreciation for game soundtracks and how they shape the overall experience. I’m also a long-time horror fan, across both games and films, with a preference for atmosphere-driven storytelling. This space reflects that passion, exploring games through both their mechanics and the atmosphere they create.
