Today, it was announced that the Amazon Prime Video series, Tomb Raider, will start production on January 19, 2026. It was also revealed that Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner will star in Tomb Raider as Lara Croft.
“I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft,” Turner said. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
The Tomb Raider TV series was officially greenlit in May 2024 by Amazon, with Turner’s involvement in the series being reported in November. It had also been known previously that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is on board as writer, creator, and executive producer.
Amazon is off to a great start with its video game adaptations, with Fallout being a great example. The show had performed so well that it was approved for a Season 3 before we received the first trailer for Season 2.
