In the past, PlayStation’s Sony Interactive Entertainment has funded projects that went on to be major releases for its library. Back in 2022, a new deal was struck with Ballistic Moon for a new unannounced title. It went on to be the PlayStation 5 release for Until Dawn. Amid the title’s development, the PlayStation firm did acquire the team as a result.

Among that same vein of discussion, you can say the same for Haven Studios also. In 2022, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed the acquisition of the jade Raymond-led developer. Its first project is a live-service effort still in development – Fairgame$. Now recently, it appears that another team is being published for another PlayStation first-party effort as well.

This week, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that it will be forming a new deal with Bad Robot Games for a new ‘internally developed games’. It is left unanswered how involved PlayStation will be on the new project, but, Left 4 Dead game director Mike Booth is to spearhead the new four-player cooperative shooter.

“Partnering with Sony Interactive Entertainment allows us to bring our new IP to life, with an expansive vision for this new universe. With the support of PlayStation, we hope to deliver a bold, innovative experience that is truly special for players. I could not be more excited that Mike Booth is at the creative helm, crafting a cooperative adventure that will lead to unforgettable moments with friends,” Bad Robot CEO Anne Sweet says.

“We’re greatly impressed with the talent Bad Robot Games has assembled at their studio, and are thrilled to partner with them to help produce and publish their upcoming game. Their unique creative voice and passion for innovating across all forms of interactive entertainment perfectly aligns with SIE’s mission to craft experiences that resonate deeply with players. We can’t wait for gamers to step into the world they’ve been building,” Christian Svensson of Sony Interactive Entertainment added.

This come at an interesting time as we’ve seen other Left 4 Dead talent move on to other major publishers. While it is not confirmed if this deal will develop into an acquisition, it is a fairly involved endeavor. Back in 2021, Turtle Rock Studios was acquired by Tencent after the release of Back 4 Blood.
