Just this past fall, Gearbox Software returned with the fourth entry in the Borderlands franchise. In our review, Rectify Gaming scored the title an 8/10. “Borderlands 4 represents both the series’ greatest triumph and most serious technical frustrations simultaneously. When everything aligns correctly, it delivers the most mechanically refined Borderlands experience ever created. The foundation is excellent, but the technical polish just isn’t there yet.”

In the days following its release, Borderlands 4 was met with a growing number of concerns for its performance. The game on most platforms was faced with degrading refresh rates as the FPS only declined as you progressed. To make things worse, the state of the Nintendo Switch 2 version is currently unknown. Rather than a delay, Gearbox Software instead announced a pause on the port is in effect for Borderlands 4.

Despite some ill news for the game, Borderlands 4 will still move forward with its DLC plans. This past week, Gearbox Software rolled out ‘Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned’. In it comes a new story expansion alongside a new Vault Hunter, C4Sh the Rogue. You can watch the launch trailer in the video below:

“A malicious cosmic entity threatens Kairos, and madness lingers on the frigid wind. Join forces with the plucky, take-no-mess Ellie—mechanic extraordinaire and daughter of Moxxi—on a quest to destroy an alien monolith and enter the accursed Vault of the Damned,” the overview reads. “Brave the icy wastes of The Whispering Glacier, a frozen expanse littered with the husks of derelict ships and dark secrets.”

The description for the new Vault Hunter says: “The power fantasy of C4SH’s Rogue class is all about going for broke as a devil-may-care gambler, bending luck in your favor to make quick work of enemies. […] C4SH’s three skill trees—Chaos Walking, Luck of the Draw, and Roll the Bones—lend themselves to all kinds of build crafting. A big difference compared to Borderlands 4’s other Vault Hunters is that C4SH doesn’t have Capstone abilities.

“Instead, all three trees offer the Devil’s Tines passive that grants C4SH an additional Augment slot, meaning you can build C4SH to have four total Augments at the same time!” Also, a new PC performance update for Borderlands 4 rolled out at the same time which added a number of optimizations that were needed from the launch build of the game.
