Back in March, Bungie shipped its newest live-service project – Marathon. The extraction shooter returns to the developer’s most pivotal IP before Halo with a new approach that spans across multiple content seasons. In our review, we described the title to feature “Smooth weapon handling and responsive shooting mechanics make the game feel alive.”
As for the post-launch of Marathon, Bungie has already mapped out a full year of content for the new extraction shooter. What many are worried about is if the title will be able to deliver on its promise before being shuttered prematurely. According to Sony, the firm does not plan to hit the killswitch on Marathon despite early shortcomings that hit the game already.
With Season 1 already nearing its end, Season 2 is set to arrive on all platforms next month. On X, the developer shared major ambitions it wants to approach in the new season including duos queuing, improved UX, and a more streamline matchmaking system from the current one. You can watch the cinematic trailer in the video below:
“In Season 2 we’ll be starting that journey with some new things we’ll be adding to the mix, including a new dimension of challenge with Night Marsh, a new defensive Runner shell Sentinel, new weapons and equipment, a revamp to how you acquire Runner shell stats to give you more options with the Cradle, and increased progression rates for faction and Runner levels,” Bungie explained in one X article.
“When Season 2 begins, Marathon will go through its first ever seasonal reset. The goal is for everyone to have a clean slate and equal footing at the start of the new season. It’s a time where the community can explore what’s new, discover what’s valuable, and chart a new path through the season together,” it adds. “These resets include things related to gameplay progression; you’ll keep your achievements, non-seasonal Codex progression, and cosmetics. See below for the full breakdown.”
Bungie continues for content after Nightfall: “Beyond Season 2, we’re working on some interesting ideas that will help to escalate the game and bring new areas of Tau Ceti to life. As we develop this new content, we’re focusing on how we bring new and interesting challenges to the game for both veterans and newcomers alike. Just a note, these ideas are in development, and so in the interest of transparency, we’re going to enumerate them below but they’ll likely take better shape and change as we learn more over Season 2.”
