Following the announcement of Kage joining the Street Fighter V from the recent Capcom Cup, the newly announced character wasn’t advertised alongside the game’s content season pass. What many caught on pretty quickly as odd, Capcom soon after reaffirms those questioning by revealing that the publisher is moving away from the bundled DLC model.

On the Street Fighter official Twitter advertising Kage’s recent reveal, the post is followed up by stating that the new fighter along with those to debut in 2019 will be sold individually as they lean away from the game’s season pass.

For why Capcom decided to drop the season pass was not clarified which makes the whole situation even more of an enigma than before. One good guess could be the lack of sales the pass made since the game launched back in 2016 and Capcom decided to put more efforts into promoting characters individually.

Despite the surprise Capcom left fans with, developers abandoning the business model to buy now for content later as of recently been a more popular trend. Looking especially at Electronic Arts with Titanfall 2 and Battlefield V, it’s influencing other teams to follow in a similar direction.

Street Fighter V is out now for PC and PlayStation 4.
