The sudden news following the closure of California-based developer Telltale Games took many throughout the industry by surprise seeing how many anticipated titles were in the works along with concluding the studio’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead. Though Clementine’s story got saved to live through for fans to see it through to the concluding episode, it wasn’t the same for the now cancelled The Wolf Among Us 2.

Recently Eurogamer spoke with a handful of former employees from Telltale discussing their reaction from the mass layoffs and indications that the studio was bound to close. Amid other titles like Stranger Things and Game of Thrones that were previously in development, the sequel to Telltale’s 2013 iteration of Fables was seen t never make it to fully releasing.

Said by an anonymous developer who worked on the now canned title, they shared that the game had a ‘shoestring’ budget with only three episode projected to release for the full second season. Stating that “even when the marketing team recorded the Wolf 2 announcement trailer, many people within the studio doubted it would ever see the light of day.”

Which comes off as pretty baffling seeing how well-received the original season did, that season two would only expand with only three parts is insulting to say the least. Wolf 2 was explained to expand of the already developed universe, but not be a true sequel from season one’s conclusion. Along with the shocking discovery, it was also mentioned that sales play a major role in which story got more attention from developers prior to the studio’s closure.

Recently Skybound Games revealed that The Walking Dead: Final Season will resume on January 15 with ‘Broken Toys’ for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and on Epic Games Store for PC.
