The Nintendo Switch has proven to do wonders thanks to the hardware capabilities that is offered such as HD rumble, motion controls, and the rare integration of the infrared camera is always a bit more to flex on the other competing systems. However, the handheld hybrid is also notorious for the space restrictions that it is currently plagued with due to the limited capacity on the physical game cartridges.
Despite the setback for more ambitious projects coming to Nintendo’s platform, developers have proven to bring some really anticipated titles to the new console like Bethesda’s Doom, Wolfenstein II, and the most recent addition of The Witcher 3. Despite strenuous yet impressive workarounds from these teams, others have yet to properly do so which results with poor development outcomes with their respected version playing on Nintendo Switch.
But things look to be bringing brighter pastures ahead in 2020 as it looks that the awaited 64 GB cartridge might be available sometime within the next coming year. According to Anandtech, the technology-focused outlet reports that Taiwan-based manufacturer Macronix will be shipping the 48-layer 3D NAND memory chips later on in the second half of next year. Furthermore, the site then shares that one of the first to be purchasing these new chips will be Nintendo.
Previously in 2018, it was disclosed that the 64 GB cartridges for the Nintendo Switch were abruptly pushed off from its initial release last year, so chances this new break of news related to the prior year’s delay looks to be very likely. Especially being aware that Nintendo still has yet to deliver on these higher spaced cartridges only answers to be the case sometime next year as well.
With developer hands on these unreleased cartridges will provide virtually double the workspace for bigger budget projects to essentially come to the Nintendo eShop. Either that being higher resolution visuals, well-detailed textures, and so on, titles you would not think of arriving to Nintendo Switch will be deemed possible whenever these 64 GB cartridges officially arrive.
What games do you think will be a byproduct from this potential foreshadowing for Nintendo’s console?
