2015 has brought us some awesome AAA games but lets look at some of the indie games that have been a big surprise this year and some that you may have not have heard of. In case you don’t know, indie games are video games created by individuals or small teams generally without video game publisher financial support. Indie games often focus on innovation and rely on digital distribution. Here are our Top Indie Games of The Year. This list is in no particular order.
Super Mega Baseball is developed by MetalHead Software and is available on Playstation 4 and Xbox One. It’s definitely one of the better games on Xbox One since there really isn’t much variety when it comes to baseball on Xbox. The game can get competitive at times and frustrating because of the AI is very good. One problem with the game is that there is no multiplayer so you can only play it for so long but it’s a game you can get back into whenever your undecided. Check out our interview with the Super Mega Baseball team.
Pneuma: Breath of Life is another indie game that deserves attention. The game is a very unique first person puzzle game which at times can be difficult as you get further in the game but its enjoyable. Achievement wise the game is a very easy 1000 G on Xbox One , each achievement is about 100 G itself. One of the problems is that once you 100% the game there really isn’t a point to play it anymore. It’s one of the best looking indie games out there, sometimes you wouldn’t think it would be an indie game. Check out our interview with Joe Brammer on the game. Our Review
Rocket League has probably been the biggest surprise to come out of 2015. The game made over $50 Million in less than a year which is pretty good since it is only available for Playstation 4 and PC and soon to be on Xbox One. The game is soccer with cars basically and it can get very competitive as it goes on and most importantly it’s fun. When it comes out on the Xbox One in February 2016 it will already have its own exclusive vehicles which are Halo and Gears of War themed. It’s probably one of the smartest ideas we have seen all year in gaming.
Another game is #IDARB. It’s one of the most unique games out there, it was built by the community on Twitter. The #IDARB creator, Mike Mika asked everyone on twitter what would they like to see in a game so he combined it all in one. One really cool feature in the game is Hashbombing people while they are streaming, you can say #Genesis and the Sega logo would pop up also there is a rick roll one too. The game has multiplayer but the only probably is that its console vs console, so while you are searching you will only find another console so it can only be a 1v1 or a 4v4 if you have 4 controllers. The #IDARB team has been working on some updates to fix that including the Rectify Gaming logo in the game. The update is still TBD. Once the update comes out i bet the community will come back together and start playing again. This is one fun game when you have a full party together. Our Review
A city run by two rival mafia families who skirmish over every inch of the city to distribute their illegal liquor. Meet Vinnie Cannoli, a hard-boiled gangster who comes to Thugtown to straighten a few things out. Vinnie is sent to a messed up city, looking for a ‘goodfella’ who’s gone missing since the zombie-outbreak. Nothing that can’t be solved with a kind word with the local gangsters though. Especially when you’re packing a Tommy gun and a double barrel shotgun to be a little more persuasive. Guns, Gore and Cannoli is an overall great and fun casual game. Crazy Monkey Studios have done an awesome job with it and we suggest you go try it out on Xbox One, Playstation or Steam.
Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic created by Yacht Club Games. You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight is a game that has moved up in the world, with it having an amiibo of its own for the Wii U. It’s a game that we suggest you get on Xbox One, PS4, or the Wii U.
