Although many were already aware of the remake for 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved, it was still a welcomed surprise when Halo Studios finally made the reveal. What impressions were left in the air is the translation to new players with the game shipping on PlayStation. One reassurance was that it would arrive with a physical copy despite the ongoing controversy from Sony earlier in July.

One of the big challenges pitted against Halo: Campaign Evolved is that it would not feature any matchmaking. But in response, Halo Studios explained that the team would still honor the legacy as well as meeting modern expectations with the decision. “We’re not trying to replace what is a masterpiece in the original. We’re trying to basically make something that stands kind of shoulder to shoulder with it.”

Well, the Early Access release for Halo: Campaign Evolved is here and the official Legendary difficulty ending has officially been released by the developer. In the concluding cutscene, it has Sergeant Johnson saying to the camera “see you in the sequel,” effectively hinting that he will return to the same capacity in a remake for Halo 2. You can watch the cutscene in the video below:

The concept of a continuation of Halo remakes has been tossed around since the announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved. Back in November 2025, @leaks_infinite disclosed that plans for the following Halo 2 & Halo 3 are to receive the same treatment. And similar to Halo: Campaign Evolved, the two will also ship without multiplayer as well.

What possibly have changed since that report is the platforms it is available on. While PlayStation 5 is supported for Halo: Campaign Evolved, you cannot say with confidence now that the rebounding sequel remakes will be. This comes after the regime change under Asha Sharma’s new XBOX leadership. It promises to commit to promised marketing, but moving forward will likely pit its big story releases only on its platform. You can read the full report by heading here.

Are you hoping a Halo 2 remake will come?

Halo: Campaign Evolved is out now for XBOX Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
