Developer Hanger 13 has been suspected to be very busy the past couple of years following the initial release of 2016’s Mafia III. While the game did initially kick off to be underwhelming with the plaguing issues running rampant upon release, the team has managed to squander most of the issues addressed by the player base with the latter add-on story expansions for the game. Most noted is the opening of a new studio in Brighton being the third team being based in Europe now.
However, understanding what exactly the development studio has in view for its next project is still unknown as of yet. But, there is some speculation as to what it might be. Looking at the rating boards in Taiwan, it is suggested that there is a remaster for both Mafia II and weirdly enough Mafia III which is only available on current systems.
Now it looks that we could be expecting the announcement soon. In a recent tweet from the game’s official Twitter account, Hanger 13 simply wrote “Family” which entails we might hear an announcement fairly soon.
What draws question to the studio’s activity to share a new project is becoming a trend with developers in the past couple of years. Actually, the same situation just occurred back in April last month as Crytek tweeted a cryptic message which implied we will see a new announcement in the coming future. Further supporting the idea is that the Mafia profile has not been active on the account since 2018, so this looks to be a similar situation for the series.
Upon reporting the initial listing of the Mafia II remaster, Mafia II: Definitive Edition, the rating in South Korea listed the unannounced title for the expected platforms alongside Nintendo Switch. However, the remaining Mafia III: Definitive Edition currently sits without any foundation to hit Nintendo’s platform as of yet.
The speculation for said imminent announcement is also set afloat from a previous statement made by publisher 2K. The company stated that followers can expect to see news for the series in the “coming months” back in February. The earnings call also shared we will see news on the approaching inaugural project from 2K Silicon Valley helmed by former Sledgehammer Studios head Michael Condrey. What are you hoping will come from the announcement?
