While fans of the highly-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 will have to sit tight for a little bit longer until this coming September, the game’s developer CD Projekt Red has already disclosed the next project following this approaching autumn. Although there will be plans for the team to curate additional story expansions for the sci-fi, first-person shooter, the team reveals that the next full on title will be returning to The Witcher series.
However, in light of the announcement, it should be clarified first that this will not be a direct mainline entry for the series. Instead, the game is shared to be a Witcher game to some extent, but still maintains the trio of titles. According to CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kiciński, planning for the game has already commenced.
Reported by Stooq; when speaking with financial figures at a recent convention, Kiciński reveals that the next project following Cyberpunk 2077 will not officially begin until after the release of the game this September. “It’s already working but we don’t want to commit to it yet. We’ll start working on this next game right after Cyberpunk 2077.”
I already said there will be no Witcher 4. I clearly said that Witcher was a trilogy. Simultaneously, we’ve always emphasised that we want to create Witcher games and the agreement with Mr. Sapkowski confirmed our rights.
Kiciński is directly referencing the agreeing partnership that formed between CD Projekt Red and Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski, confirming to have permission for this unannounced project. As for what the unnamed will be, it is reassuring that the relationship between both parties have been settled ahead of development for this new title.
Regarding what the game will be exactly or where it will be set is left undisclosed for now. Although word of the title’s planning has just initiated, the game has yet to properly begin development and changes are expected to happen leading to this coming September.
In related news to The Witcher series, Netflix announced that there will be an animated film on the way with The Legend of Korra’s Studio Mir involved with the production. You can head here to read the full report.
