Electronic Arts/Full Circle’s Skate was a return to the beloved skateboarding simulator with a new free-to-play, live-service approach. Shipping back in August 2025, the game launched and instantly became a phenomenon online. By October, the developers rolled out Season 1 for the new release and delivered on its promise for the post-launch plans it has mapped ahead.

However, the game started taking a turn which many were not satisfied to see compared what was initially shared for Skate. As part of the launch for Season 3, Isle of Grom was added to the game. But, purchasing the premium pass would grant access to the location; becoming a pay wall for players from content. Not to mention the sizeable amount of layoffs the game was hit with as well around the same time.

And while the game has been hit with some changes, there is a new update that is exciting for fans looking for a way to return. Starting today, X Games makes a return to the series with the ‘X Games San Van Event that will be live from July 21st to August 25th. You can watch the new trailer in the video below:

“The redesigned venue is packed with competition-inspired features, fresh obstacles, and X Games styling that captures the energy of a live event. All three main sections of the X Games layout are based on the designs of the MoonPay X Games League Championship course in New Orleans, specifically: the massive competition vert ramp, the street park, and the bowl section.

“The Stadium isn’t just hosting the action—it’s the heart of it, giving every skater a chance to experience the spotlight and see what they’re capable of when the pressure is on.” Full Circle also learned from its previous decision and made the event fully available to all players. “It’s Open Access for everyone – no Rip Chips or skate.Premium Pass needed”

Recently, Electronic Arts shared its plans for its sports titles & new releases. It was revealed that the publisher has kickstarted a new advertising division to inject advertisements into its games. Tiles like Skate were referenced for “retrofitting” upon discussing the new initiative. You can read the full report by heading here.
