Without a doubt, Xbox sits at the back of the line compared to PlayStation & Nintendo. Although it currently has more units sold this generation compared to Nintendo Switch 2 – just blame that on the five-year head start. But, although Microsoft continues to pioneer new features for the industry, hardware remains the loudest concern for Xbox. And with climbing costs in the market, another wave is to hit Xbox Series pricing next month as well.
On the retail side of things, it has been an ongoing development for Microsoft’s push on store shelves. The most recent string of titles initially were only to ship digitally for Xbox until a sudden change of heart. But, it did shutter its retail division last year. Additionally, storefronts like Best Buy & Wal-Mart have been working to reduce its options for Xbox overall.
Now in the heat of the new pricing underway for Xbox Series hardware, another retailer is packing things up for its Xbox selections. It was discovered that membership bulk store Costco is no longer offering Xbox consoles in-store & online. According to Destin Legarie on X, he contacted the company which confirmed it is not moving forward with selling Xbox any longer.
Although the decision was not directly shared, Costco did relay that its offerings for Nintendo & PlayStation are still strong despite Xbox’s shortcomings. Elsewhere in New Zealand, more evidence of the apparent change is also prominent. Via a post on Reddit, user u/akbarock posted an image of Xbox Series X on clearance. The reduced priced now offers the console at $440 NZD which converts into $258 USD roughly.
Thus far, the current console generation has been a polarizing one. As stated, PlayStation & Nintendo are performing optimally. However, although Xbox shows signs of suffering, the overall market is not performing on par to previous lifecycles. While spending is high, sales is not parallel to prior.
