How to get Drifter's Cloak Hollow Knight Silksong

Discover everything you need to know about unlocking Drifter’s Cloak in Hollow Knight Silksong, including how to use it.

Drifter’s Cloak in Hollow Knight Silksing is a unique ability that allows you to fly in the air, making exploration smooth. Complete the Flexile Spines Hunt in Far Fields to unlock this ability to use in the game. Seamstress will provide you with the Drifter’s Cloak after finishing the quest. Make sure you have already unlocked the Swift Step ability before trying to get access to the Glide ability.

Moving into the Far Fields can be challenging due to deadly enemies over there, and having the dash ability can make the fight easier. This traversal power is required to make progress in Act 1 of Hollow Knight: Silksong. In this guide, we’ll discuss how to get the Drifter Cloak or the Glide ability, including some useful tips.

What is Drifter’s Cloak in Hollow Knight Silksong

The Drifter’s Cloak or Glide is the 3rd major ability in Hollow Knight Silksong and is very important for traversal. This ability is used to hover in mid-air and also to glide up the many wind shafts found throughout Pharloom. Use this Glide ability to float after pressing the jump button twice. Use the movement sticks or the arrow keys to automatically glide in a direction.

This ability is very crucial to unlock to make your progression smooth in regions like Far Fields. Most of the time, you want to avoid engaging with the enemies, so using the Drifter’s Cloak can be very handy. Hold the ‘X’ on your Xbox controller to ride the winds and glide. Unlocking this ability is also required to activate the fourth chorus boss in the game.

We assume that you’ve already unlocked the Swift Step ability.

How To Unlock Drifter’s Cloak

Unlocking the Drifter’s Cloak ability in Hollow Knight Silksong requires you to complete the Flexile Spines Hunt quest in Far Fields. Make sure to locate the Seamstress and activate the quest. Travel back to Seamstress after completing this quest, allowing you to unlock Drifter’s Cloak ability.

1. Move to Forge Bench

You will begin at the altar where the Swift Step ability is unlocked, in Deep Docks. From there, you will need to move west and back towards where Shakra, the map seller NPC, can be found in this area. There is a Flea you can grab along the way for a side quest. However, we recommend you take the direct route for this quest.

Move east of Shakra into the next chamber, and while this next step is optional, I do recommend it for several reasons. If you follow the bench sign and drop down into the nearby chamber, you can go along a path to reach a boss room. There are several waves of enemies that need to be defeated. It is slightly challenging but very doable.

As a reward for completing this challenge, you will gain access to a free bench that is near the next boss. You also unlock a vendor that sells some useful items, including a very powerful offensive tool, the Sting Shard.

2. Defeat Lace Boss

From the free bench, you will need to move back up into the previous chamber.

  • Make use of your Swift Step ability to unlock the boss chamber to the east.
  • There, you will encounter Lace, a nimble adversary who will make sure you learn how to use the dodge function of Swift Step to survive.
  • After defeating Lace, you can move east into the next chamber.
  • Strike the lever to unlock a bench and the nearby gate.

3. Move to Far Fields Bellways

Move a fair distance east into the new region, Far Fields, until reaching the Bellways or fast travel station for it. If you do not have at least 30 Rosaries, then I recommend defeating some of the humanoid foes along the way, which will drop a decent amount.

In any case, you will need to make use of both the Sprint and air dash functions of our swift step ability. This is only to get up to and stay on the upper path of this large chamber. Exiting from the top east of the chamber will lead us straight to the Bellways station for Far Fields. This region will also have a very useful bench.

4. Acquire Rosaries in Far Fields

If you have fewer than 80 Rosaries, be sure to unlock the bench first. This allows you to use it as a checkpoint for another Rosaries farm. This is optional, but if you want more Rosaries, you can move west from the bench and back into the previous large chamber.

  • Move along the top platforms until passing by two explosive clusters.
  • Then, drop down and defeat the Skarr Scout to the west.
  • Defeating this enemy will drop 13 Rosaries.
  • After that, move east and use the Silk Spear ability once or twice on the paired Skarr Scout and Skarr Stalker.
  • It takes a little practice, but all 3 of these foes can be taken down fairly quickly for just over 50 Rosaries.
  • You can then save and quit the game to quickly return to the nearby bench and repeat the process as many times as is necessary to buy whatever you need.

5. Get Far Fields Map

Starting from the Far Fields Bellways, you can unlock the bellway station if you haven’t already, then move out to the west. Dropping a short distance down while hugging the eastern wall will bring you to a new chamber where Shakra can be found. After getting the Far Fields Map, you can now get a much better idea of where you are and where you need to go.

6. Hunt for a Seamstress

Moving back out to the west, you will drop down once more and then head east again. Watching out for the lava, you can platform your way east through a long chamber. After that, in the next chamber, up to the hut of the Seamstress.

7. Harvest Hoker Spine Cores

There is a free bench here to use, and speaking with the Seamstress will also get you the Flexile Spines quest. This quest is required to complete the Drifter’s Cloak. To do that, you can move out of the hut and to the chamber down and east. The enemy you are looking for is the Hokers. You will need to strike it for once and avoid the spines it shoots out. Now, quickly move around and strike the ones within our reach to harvest them.

  • You will need to obtain a total of 25 spine cores.
  • There are 3 easily accessed Hokers in this area.
  • Some free rosaries are up and to the west of the 3rd Hoker.
  • Likely, you won’t have all 25 Spines from just the 3 Hokers.
  • In that case, just leave the chamber and re-enter it to have all of them respawn.
  • Then repeat the harvesting process until you have 25 Spine Cores.

Once you have all 25 Spine Cores, you can return to the Seamstress’s Hut and turn. In the Spine Cores to complete the quest. Doing so will get you the Drifter’s Cloak. This can be used to hover in mid-air, and also to ride upwind shafts found throughout Pharloom.

Hi, I’m Ali. I started gaming with Max Payne, and it set the tone for my interest in darker, more immersive experiences. I mostly play soulslikes, RPGs, and FPS titles that focus on tight mechanics and pacing.

I have a strong appreciation for game soundtracks and how they shape the overall experience. I’m also a long-time horror fan, across both games and films, with a preference for atmosphere-driven storytelling. This space reflects that passion, exploring games through both their mechanics and the atmosphere they create.
