Enemies in Hollow Knight Solksong become powerful as you continue exploring the world. Therefore, having the upgraded version of Needle is crucial to defeating the mobs and bosses. Pinmaster Plinney is the NPC that allows you to upgrade your weapons, but you need to free this NPC from the Widow boss. The first upgrade is free, but further upgrades require completing certain tasks. Completing the liberation of the Bellhart area to access Pinmaster Plinney is essential. In this guide, we’ll discuss how to upgrade Needle in Hollow Knight Silksong and how to get inside Bellhart.
How to Upgrade the Needle
Continue the main story path until you reach Shellwood. At the end of Shellwood, you’ll eventually unlock the story ability to grab hold of walls and be able to wall jump. Once you have unlocked the wall jump ability, you can get back to the bench you encountered. Take the path through here to the right to the north of Bellhart, which you couldn’t previously access.
You will come across tunnels that you need to pass through. However, they can be a little bit annoying, but they are not too long. The fluffy enemies are lurking in these tunnels that can deal damage to you. Wait for them to go past and then slide down the wall.
- Make sure you’re actually sliding down the walls and not just dropping down these tunnels, as there’s going to be spikes at the bottom of most of this area.
- Eventually, you will reach a room where you can see an NPC. This NPC is going to be the Widow Boss.
- Use your weapon and the right strategies to defeat this boss. Free the Pinmaster Plinney by defeating the Widow in a fight.
- Be aware of deadly attacks that can lower your entire HP.
- Once you defeat her, you’ll be teleported into the dark wooden world, where you will learn to play some music.
- Continue your journey, and a time will come when you will emerge from that bench, having defeated the boss.
Get Inside the Bellhart
From this bench in the boss room, if you go to the right and then take the lift down, you will notice that you’re at the main Bellhart region at the bottom. Now, the town has been liberated, and you can see new NPCs around here. One of them is going to be the NPC that allows you to upgrade the Needle. To find him, what you need to do is to go to the left side of Bellhart and then start climbing up to the top.
The second building here on the right-hand side is going to be the NPC (Pinmaster Plinney) that pretty much sharpens the Needle.
Complete Pinmaster Plinney’s Quest
The first weapon upgrade will be completely free, as you don’t need to give him any items. However, after the first upgrade, you will be doing a fetch quest to retrieve certain items to allow you to upgrade your Needle even further. Plinney is located in the bellhouse on the right. This bellhouse is indicated by three white pins above the door.
Pinmaster Plinney will ask you to complete the quest “Pinmaster’s Oil” after getting your first upgrade in the game. The oil can be located in the Citadel. Completing this quest allows you to upgrade the Needle for the second time to make it even more powerful. Applying the damage allows the Needle to deal additional damage in combat.
