London-based tech company Improbable recently announced that the firm will be entering the game development scene by opening two new studios; one in London and another in Edmonton. Improbable is most known for creating the SpatialOS Engine which crafted titles such as Seed, Scavengers, and Mavericks: Proving Grounds. As well as partnering with Runescape developer Jagex to bring more titles to storefronts with the new game engine.
In the announcement made by Improbable, the company reveals that former Bioware developer Aaryn Flynn will be taking the helm of the Edmonton studio. Whilst the London studio will be under ex Epic Games and Call of Duty producer John Wasilczyk. Improbable CEO Herman Narula shares his excitement for the two new studios and expands on the idea of potentially opening “other locations in the future”.
Flynn makes a statement on joining Improbable as studio Head of the Edmonton sector:
“I was interested in making a game using SpatialOS from the very first time I spoke to Improbable,” Flynn states.” Now, after a lot of great hires and great progress, we’re going to focus on creating that game using Unreal Engine 4 and building on SpatialOS’ next-generation online games platform.”
Currently, there is now word on what either the London or the Edmonton studios will be developing in the coming months. But what we got from Flynn’s comment, we might expect word on the upcoming title in a year or two possibly. Following the recent leaks of Microsoft’s two next-generation consoles to drop next year, this is the most tangible evidence on when players will jump to the ninth generation of platforms.
