The Mario & Sonic Olympics game series had been well-received over the years it was released, and the last one to release was Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. A new report has come out claiming a bunch of additional IPs and franchises were going to be added.
Apparently, there was interest in including Pokémon, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Dragon Ball, Metal Gear Solid, Sonic Family, Mario Family, Zelda, and some other Sony and Microsoft characters.
The report came from Lee Cocker on X (Twitter), who worked on the Mario & Sonic series. He responded to a fan online saying, “Yes he original plan for Tokyo 2020 was for it to be a Video Game All Stars Game with lots of classic and present-day video game characters.” Then confirming characters from SEGA, Capcom, Konami, etc were considered.
It was reported by Lee Cocker that in 2024, the Mario & Sonic Olympics Series would be completely finished. There was planned to be a Paris 2024 version, but even that was canned.
Do you hope the Mario & Sonic Olympics Series makes a return?
Thanks to Nintendo Everything for sharing this.
