Marvel’s Blade Isn’t Being Canned, And An Update Might Be Coming Later This Year

Back in December 2023, XBOX Game Studios & Bethesda made the surprising announcement that its developing a new Marvel title. From Arkane Lyon, Marvel’s Blade was revealed. The team behind Dishonored & Deathloop are crafting together a new title set within the universe of the popular vampire slayer. According to one report, it was disclosed that the game studio has been working on the game as early as 2022.

Additionally, the game was still years away from releasing then it was realized. In a later development, it was understood that Arkane Lyon plans to ship Marvel’s Blade sometime later in 2027. What is left in the air is the platforms. Of course XBOX & PC are confirmed, but the recent multiplatform push by Microsoft suggests the same for this new Marvel title. When pressed, Bethesda has remained silent on the matter as of writing.

In the latest development, it was understood that Marvel’s Blade has shuttered its development. Jeff Grubb, who correctly predicted the exclusivity of Gears of War: E-Day recently, stated that Marvel’s Blade is no more. But, XboxEra’s Nick Baker stated that the game is not in a bad position as claimed.

Even from one developer at Arkane Lyon directly has appeared to verify that the game is still in development. Lead concept artist Jean-Luc Monnet on X responded to a worried fan with a GIF simply reading “Let us cook.” But, that is not where the road ends for Marvel’s Blade as XBOX Game Studios Matt Booty hints at new information soon.

According to Booty when speaking to Variety, a new update is possible to release in 2026. “There’s always potential to hear more about things that didn’t show up today,” Booty said in the interview. 2026 is shaping up to be a big year for XBOX for its 25th anniversary as well as other upcoming projects.
