When the topic of cloud technology comes to the plate, those in the discussion are swift to reference Microsoft right off the bat. And rightly so; the firm for just close to a decade has invested heavily in cloud capabilities and plenty of that has certainly seeped into its gaming division as well. A la xCloud, that is only the surface of what is to be dealt on that.

Additionally, large studios happen to have access to these cloud presets that enable a more flexible approach to games when being updated or patched. Unlike the traditional stream-like patchwork, the cloud illustrates to instantly apply the client when its infrastructure is effectively established for the developer. For Microsoft, Azure is the forefront of the company and now smaller developer can find the same tools as well.

Scheduled to launch later this year, Microsoft reveals ID@Azure. A run-on of the ID@Xbox banner, independent developers can find a new initiative from the Xbox company which handles its cloud-structured system for the smallest of studios.

“With Azure cloud, game creators can build, scale, and operate their game on the global, secure, and reliable Azure cloud,” Microsoft said in a statement transcribed by gamesindustry.biz. “Developers can quickly scale up and down when their needs change, only pay for the resources they use, and let Microsoft manage infrastructure.” This follows Microsoft endeavor which welcomes teams to test developer kits via xCloud previously.

Namely, Microsoft continues to show its efforts in establishing a larger platform for independent game studios. Even more, the Xbox firm has went the lengths to even establish publishing deals for games via Xbox Game Pass. Studio Zevere, the one-man team working in She Dreams Elsewhere, reflects on the life-changing agreement with Microsoft to finish the JRPG.

As for other greenlit initiatives that benefit developers on Xbox, AMD this past month launched its self-named AMD FidelityXF for Xbox Series X|S. The toolset enables studios to further amplify processing technology including Variable Rate Shading and raytracing. You can read the full report by heading here.
