Midwinter Entertainment is shutting down its free-to-play shooter, Scavengers

Scavengers, a free-to-play shooter is getting shut down on December 16, 2022. This announcement was made through a blog post on the official website. The reasoning behind this move was the there was a great decline in the playerbase after trying to find ways to get more users on.

“The last few months have seen a decline in the playerbase, and whilst we explored many options to reinvigorate server population while the game is in early access, it became clear that it was unsustainable to continue development and live service. We’re all proud of what we accomplished, and are grateful to every player who took the time to play, even if it was just for a short while.”

Midwinter Entertainment was co-founded by former Creative Director at 343 Industries, Josh Holmes and Scavengers was developed by veterans in the industry who worked on the Halo franchise and others.

In 2019 the company was purchased by Improbable and earlier this year they sold Midwinter to Behaviour Interactive.

Scavengers never saw a release on consoles as it was only a PC release. Could a launch on consoles have saved this game? That’s a tough question to answer.
