While fans anticipated to possibly see the sixth installment of the Grand Theft Auto series from Rockstar Games during the PlayStation 5 showcase last month, follower were instead welcomed with a trailer from the firm – unfortunately it was for the next-generation version of 2013’s Grand Theft Auto V instead. But regardless of what has already been shared for the new systems, it was expected that the branching team would share more later on in the lengths of new properties.
It was reported back in April of last year that Rockstar Games currently has multiple projects underway which have yet to be revealed. The information was disclosed by Rockstar Games India based in Bangalore – Lead Animator Abhinav Raj Karanwal disclosed the information on his resumé sharing that “unannounced games” are currently on his repertoire at the developer.
While the Indian division does not primarily stand as solely developing the projects , say Red Dead Redemption 2, the studio has helped tremendously as a support team on ambitious, AAA projects. That could even be applied to what could be underway from developer Video Games Deluxe. According to a job listing on the studio’s LinkedIn, there is a new virtual reality project that is currently in development.
We are now gearing up for a new project, a AAA open world title in VR for Rockstar. 2020 marks our 7th year of working exclusively for Rockstar in Sydney and we are excited to taking on this ground breaking project.
For those unfamiliar with the Sydney-based studio, Video Games Deluxe is responsible for the remaster of L.A. Noire for modern systems alongside the more recent L.A. Noire: VR Case Files which shipped in late 2017. Looking at the team’s track record at preserving current Rockstar Games-published properties on newer platforms, it is presumed the same can be applied for the developer’s next project.
However, determining what the new project has little to no base to even suggest the next project. Fans while devastated that there is no sight of Grand Theft Auto VI in the works presumably – so still hold onto the idea there is another Bully project underway. But if it is best to assume the studio will reinvigorate a pre-existing project for VR, it will be a virtual reality interpretation of the 2006 project.
What do you hope to see come from this VR Rockstar Games project?
