The current regime for Xbox has shown to be adamant to make changes for the betterment of the platform. Head Asha Sharma has addressed multiple problems so far: Xbox Game Pass Ultimate pricing; ‘This Is An Xbox’ initiative; Achievements overhaul. And more is still on the way from the fresh Xbox boss. Last month, she addressed in her new ‘We Are Xbox’ pledge to follow through with new decision making to improve the platform including realistic profitability as well as reconsidering exclusive releases.

One element that remains from the previous Xbox leadership is the push for AI. In 2024, Microsoft showcased Copilot integration for its platform aiding a person with Minecraft in the demonstration. Reports also pointed towards a chatbot feature also being worked on internally. By fall 2025, Copilot rolled out for Xbox on PC & smartphones.

In a new statement by Asha Sharma, Microsoft is planning to redirect resources to abide by the requests of its users. To start things off, it is shuttering further efforts for AI compatibility on Xbox as Copilot is shoehorned out completely.

What still remains is the utilization of artificial intelligence in game building. Before, Microsoft revealed Muse – a toolset for its in-house teams to aid development. On X, Sharma has further elaborated on AI in game development. “We are refocusing our AI efforts to solving player problems like enhancing real-time graphics, improving discovery and deepening personalization. AutoSR shipping is a good early example: models reconstruct high-frequency detail from lower-res frames, increasing image quality and performance.”

Additionally, previous Microsoft CoreAI employees are also joining Sharma’s campaign at Xbox as part of this new vehicle to better the platform. Tim Allen, Jonathan McKay, and Evan Chaki are joining Sharma’s ranks. Jared Palmer on X also announced his involvement. Sharma speaking to The Verge disclosed he will “[work] directly with me on our most complex product and engineering problems, with a focus on developer tooling, taste, and infrastructure.”

Both Roanne Sones & Kevin Gammill, leadership of former Sarah Bond’s Xbox effort, are to step down from their respective roles. In turn, Jason Ronald is to be receiving a promotion amid the development internally as well as on Project Helix’s progress too. “Our goal with this change is simple: build a platform that is affordable, personal, and open by staying close to the work and the people we serve. We will continue to add the capabilities needed to get there,” she explained.

Are you surprised by this change of leadership at Xbox?
