Nintendo shocked the world when it revealed the price of its premiere Switch 2 launch title, Mario Kart World. The game is confirmed to cost $79.99 digitally and physically. Today, President of Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser, spoke to the media about the pricing decisions.
Bowser stated that Nintendo Switch 2 will have “variable software pricing.”
“What you see right there is variable pricing. We’ll look at each game, really look at the development that’s gone into the game, the breadth and depth of the gameplay, if you will, the durability over time and the repeatability of gameplay experiences”, Doug Bowser told Washington Post.
The Nintendo of America president goes on to say those are all factors, and there are many more that go into consideration of what is the right price point for the game. Then goes on to say, “we haven’t set a benchmark”.

Will every Nintendo Switch 2 game cost $80?
Based on the initial pricing of first-party games for the Nintendo Switch 2, we can observe the variable game pricing that Bowser mentioned. Donkey Kong Bananza will be priced at $69.99 instead of $80. This suggests that while the game may not offer enough content to encourage repeated play, it still maintains a level of quality.
It’s clear that every game that comes out from Nintendo will not cost $80. We haven’t learned everything about Mario Kart World, but there seems to be a lot to explore and play within the game.
In related news, Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour will be available as a digital-only title on the console for $10, it was revealed.
